Mediocre at best. I purchased this radio based on great reviews primarily for am listening. Although the radio seems well made, attractive, and user friendly, it did not get great reception on am or fm. Must note - we do live in a rual area and don't have many stations to choose from in the first place. Item was ultimately returned to amazon.
It works very well but the ergonomic could be improved:- Handle is missing- The volume button is sticking out and can easily be changed involuntary- Auto scan function missing or well hidden- The memory switches are too small
This is like the other Sangean I have, which we love, but instead of +/- audio volume the volume is set by a turn-knob on the side. I found that inconvenient and sloppy, as I use the radio behind and above me in the office -- hard to reach and tend to turn the tuning knob.AM reception exceptionally good, like the other sangean. But the FM reception is not good, terrible.
I bought this radio because of the reviews. FM comes in so strong that I don't need to pull up the antenna on most stations and the sound quality is wonderful. The only thing missing is a carrying handle because I take it with me all over the house. I wasn't sure about the battery life (which is just fine) or the sound quality. The am signal came in better on my old Radio Shack radio.but the sound on am is worth turning the radio a bit. The on/off button is right in the front but it says "sleep" on it. I would change that but other than that, I recommend this nice radio.
I needed a better radio for use in the master bath. too much bass boost and you can't turn it off. I took it back and went to do more research. This Sangean radio was highly regarded for distant reception and seemed to be a good deal.
I finally decided to get a 'real' radio.I did some research and bought the Tivoli Model One satellite radio when it was on sale at Costco for $80. It got very good reception on every station I wanted to listen to where the others had failed. The $20 thing I got at Costco 10 years ago had been dropped many times on its head while I moved it around the room trying to get a better signal.
I went for it at the same price as the Tivoli I had just returned. It arrived with free shipping and when I unpacked it and turned it on it just worked. I thought that at this great price I'd buy it and ignore the Sirius Satellite feature. I took it home, attached the external FM antenna and it was not even as good as my old beat up radio at getting my NPR station from another town (FM).
Excellent. The sound is a little "boom-y". I can live with that for the great reception it gets and I listen mainly to talk and news.
